Discover The Rectangle Body Type
The Rectangle body type is similar to the hourglass body type. The difference is the rectangle body type’s ratios are much smaller than the hourglass leaving less distance between the shoulders, waist & hips. There are two different types of rectangle figures: athletic or round. The athletic is also known by the terms: straight, banana, or ruler. And the round is also known as an apple. Let’s explore the rectangle body type:
The Rectangle body type is the most common body type among women. The waist is not well defined but the shoulders and hips align. Rectangle figures typically gain weight first in the stomach or butt area.

If you are a rectangle the goal is to give the appearance of curves or a defined waist. You want to highlight the upper ribcage because it is typically smaller than your true waist. In order to give the appearance of curves slightly fill out the hips and shoulders.
Here are some do’s & don’ts:
- use pockets to accentuate the shoulders or hips. Pockets on the bust or hips will help create balance
- empire waists are perfect to help give a defined waist
- use pattern detail to camophlague any tummy issues
- wear high turtlenecks
- avoid belts at your true waist
- avoid crop jackets & cardigans
